We just got a call from this number. When I looked it up here and saw the reference to the "free cruise to the Bahamas" scam, I was disgusted--and not for the first time either. Using other numbers, these people have been stealing my prepaid airtime--and I don't get the chance to tell them to reimburse me for it because it's when I listen to the voicemail they leave me that I find out I only get the chance to do that if I'm listening to their call "live".
Any time any telemarketer uses spoofing technology, it reeks of the idea that they have something to hide. I don't know if Canada's laws include tough penalties for people like that, but if they don't, they should. No company should ever be trusted that doesn't tell you who they are or what they do. If this company is able to offer free cruises, they should go on one themselves--straight to hell.
They cannot take over your line like that but they can use any telephone number to show up on your call display that they do. IE: if you are in Toronto they use 416 and even your local exchange number as people are prone to answering if they see its local. In other words they are targeting people more and more exactly where they live.
The best thing to do is call the DNC and report the number, if its recorded and any other information as there are people trying to stop these fraud artists.
You might also contact your local police, MP and MPP and register a complaint each time it happens, persistance and bugging your MP and MPP after awhile will get past on, the squeaky gear gets the oil! lol
Keep complaining guys and girls it works....................
