My name is Jake and this is my phone number, and I am NOT calling you. I work at a phone company which is why my personal phone number ends in four zeroes - having a neat phone number is a perk of my job :-) There are scammers who fake their caller ID so that you see someone else's number instead of their number when they call you, and unfortunately that has happened here and is making lots of people think that I'm calling them. On March 10 I started receiving calls from people claiming that I had just called them, even though I did not. This continued to escalate until I was receiving these calls every few minutes, and at that point I had to disconnect my own phone number because of how many calls I was receiving. Luckily since I work at the phone company that provides this number I was able to disconnect my own number, but most people would not be able to do this.
Be aware that this can happen to anybody. If you start receiving lots of phone calls someday from people who claim that you just called them, your number may have been used in this way. There's unfortunately nothing you can do about it and nothing you can do to prevent it - it's an inherent flaw in how the telephone network is designed.
