Caller identified herself as being with Google Maps, which matched the caller ID, and asked me for our street address. Then she asked for me to confirm our store hours and what kind of business classification we'd come under. Exactly the information one would expect Google to need in order to confirm that our Google Map listing was up to date and that we were indeed still in business. The caller was polite, the connection was reasonable (didn't sound like a cell-phone), and after I'd provided the information she thanked me and that was it. Clearly this was not phishing by a "directory listing" scammer, which is what most calls are when someone asks me to give them our address. If you get a call from this number I'd advise answering it. It's a few seconds out of your day, but you'd spend more time than that trying to get your listing back on Google if they pull it for being unverifiable.
Called my office when I went to answer no one was there. Could not understand he hung up on my cell.. Not sure what benefit this could be to google the information cannot be accurate that they obtain
Received a call to my business cell phone. No one was there. Googled the number and came upon this website. A fellow business owner has been receiving the same type of call from a different number for the last few days. Very weird and sketchy. Who do you report this to?
this piece of [***] company called me yesterday at 6:35am. sick at home with flu, burning up with fever and they called me at 6:35am, can you imagine? if the guy was here in front of me, i'd beat him to death on the spot.
I got a call from someone claiming to be from Google Maps from this number 650-253-2000.
I am curious why a Fortune 500 company would hire people with limited English speaking skills to make phone calls saying they are with Google Maps and use a phone line that sounds like they are calling from a small island in the Pacific with a bunch of static on the line.
As I recall, the caller did not identify themselves by first or last name. Simply I am calling from Google Maps.
I explained to the caller that I had lots of people in the store and was he calling about an online item and wouldn't you know he what.... hangs up.
I was going to say there is no way this is Google, but I called the number back and it says Google Maps and the number does not accept inbound calls.
The phone call was completely unprofessional and that is not the type of company that I envision Google to be.
They keep calling us at 4 am our time, and if you do answer and tell them it is too early, they call back repeatedly within minutes because they don't seem to understand English. We finally blocked the number on our home phone because they called back several days in a row at 4 am. Then they would call, get the block message ( we would hear one ring) hang up and try again multiple times. These people are stalkers!
