Just ignored a call from this same number, looks like they are scamming hard today. This is the 3rd or 4th different number i have been getting random calls from this week and my number is pretty well protected. I have not put it out there for anythign for fear of these harrassing calls. Any idea on how these idiots got it? Geico would not have shared it . . .would they? I filed a claim shortly before this started and gave them my new number. . . . hmmmm
2 calls in a row from this number! 1st call was a female, said I won $9,000 + a car! Told them they were full of it and hung up. Phone# rang back in, a male caller this time, who could barely speak English. Said the exact same thing as the 1st female caller. I wish these people would put this much energy into a legitamte job!
A female called saying I won money; over $6,000. She gave me a number to call but that number did not pick up. I called a second time and they said the lady I was supposed to contact was busy. I don't know what to believe.
Did any of the callers mention your name?
If not, then the callers are simply dialing all possible numbers in an area code + exchange hoping someone gullible will fall for their scam. I get a call a week, on average, on my unlisted and unpublished cell phone number, from scammers who are calling for suckers. Most of these don't call twice.
There is nothing special about your phone number; any person or any dialer can call your number, accidentally or on purporse. What is special is the association of your name with that number. You have done well to protect that little bit of data. And that is why you should let most unknown calls go to an answering machine or voicemail.
