someone says they are an animal rescue outfit and they solicit a $5.00 donation. If you donate you are eleigble to win a lot of money. A follow up call said there were some missing funds and asked for a bank account number. This call was to an older lady that has to have someone sit with her for most of the day. She is an easy target.
My grandma had this same scam pulled on her, albeit with a few twists. Originally she received a call from a man under the alias Michael Collins who informed her that she had won amounts in excess of 9.8 million, citing a charitable donation as the origin of the prize. She was then informed that she would receive an imminent call from an attorney representing the Rothschild law firm. This man then called back using the alias Anthony Spencer, claiming that he had been hired externally to deal with the transaction. At this point my grandmother, who had experienced these calls before, inquired as to whether she owed the individual anything for his services or any additional fees. He informed her that all was covered and that after she returned from her trip they would meet in person at a bank to deal with the transaction. I cannot see where the scam is in this scenario, however, it is apparent that many of you have seen similar fraud attempts occur and thus I will caution her against complying with the caller.

I believe these are the people running yet another scam opporation which uses disposable cell phones. They tell you they are attorneys and that you have to pay for something you owe them for by noon, or they will have you arrested. I do not know where they got my information, but they are also calling my work. I have turned the number over to the FCC.
