Call at 2:45 p.m. EDT was intercepted by an online service that offers this blocking service for people who use cable-connected phone service, as offered by Time Warner and AT&T. The only thing in the town the call is from in Athens, Ohio, is Ohio University. Maybe they are calling alums for donations? The state has really slashed funding to public universities and redirected money to for-profit entities that call themselves colleges and charter schools.
Just a reminder: LEGITIMATE charities do NOT cold call and ask for your credit card number.
ALSO: They claim to be raising funds for troopers but these are people who are PAID to cold call people. That's not how charities work. Also, be sure to ask the person who calls if he or she is connected to state troopers in any way.
they aren't. They get paid a chunk of the money you donate. I imagine a very, very small portion of what you would give makes it to those who actually need it.
