Also have a bike for sale on Cycle Trader.  Received a text today from [email protected], phone 832-408-1079 wanting pictures and price.  Third time someone with same phone number but different name has texted me.  Never replied to any of them because pictures and price were on Cycle Trader -- just thought they were idiots.  Now I know the idiot was me because I advertised on Cycle Trader. NEVER AGAIN!  I am passing the word to my cycle buddies to NEVER advertise on Cycle Trader!!

The same thing happened to me yesterday.  Received a text from a [email protected], asking for pics to be sent to an email address...then get a reply from the email address stating that he's unable to talk on the phone, due to working long hours off shore on a rig ...and of course his phone on the rig is down due to bad weather (if phone is down, how did he send a text?).  Stated the only way he could pay was via paypal and that his private courier would come pick up the motorcycle.

Does anyone actually know how they scam you? Do they ask for personal info.  I am getting these texts, adn honestly it didnt throw up and flags for me because I didnt see any harm in only giving my email address for paypal.  I must not be to the point where they make their move.

I have a motorcycle listed on Cycle-trader/ Autotrader, and have had repeated scammers sending me text which they claim to be "military", "deaf", and or just cannot accept "phone calls".
They in turn, want to get my Paypal address to send me money for motorcycle, they then send me an email, with Paypal letterhead, stating for "funds to be released I must send funds ($700+) through western union to a pick-up agent, then "Paypal" will release my funds.
Obviously this is a scam!!! Moreover, yesterday alone I had over 5 texts, which all arose from various US phone numbers, that tried to pull the same scam!!!
After calling the numbers  I discovered the  "US" phone numbers are generated by a computer program which 'masks' international phone numbers and computer IP addresses.

Please be aware if this rampant scam!!!!! Both times I have listed on Autotrader or Cycle trader this has happened.

Got a text from a guy interested in my bike I have for sale on cycle trader. Sent me a text saying I am ready to pay your final price because i want to buy the bike for my dad as birthday gift. Do you have a paypal account to receive payment. I have a guy  that will pick up the bike for me and send it out to my dad.  Me not thinking anything about it sent my paypal email. I called the guy and he did not answer, the number was from NC. I received an email stating
My name is Mac Roland. I'm a PayPal representative in charge of your transaction with Valerie Campbell.

Be informed that the payment received from Valerie Campbell will only be credited into your PayPal account as soon as you have the shipping fee sent out upfront as instructed and email us the transfer details or receipt to show proof that money has been transferred via Money Gram money Transfer.
