Midmorning today I got voice mail bearing the back half of a canned female pushing a bogus credit card reprice offer. I have several of these messages in my recent collection. This is the same "final notice" recording which I have heard so many times over the last decade that I can recite it like bad poetry. Probably it's "Heather" but I've yet to hear the first half. Typically the dialers either abandon the call or get confused by whatever system I'm using and start playing their pitch when my recorder responds, hence the "late roll" effect.
My current pursuer has been lobbing this intro at my recently obtained number in clusters since January, and hopping around the country for Caller ID. The abuse of a southeast Florida number this time is likely close to the truth for once. As in this call, they have consistently used the Peerless Network carrier since late May. The Caller ID CNAM has varied, usually replacing the default place name with misleading text. This time it was "survey", a flat-out lie about the call category. Previous goofy tags include: "call VOIP", "Debt Relief", "Reverse", and "Support Line".
This is the transcript of the portion I always get. I'm sure it's very familiar to many:
".... your interest rates, to as little as six-point-nine *percent*. Your eligibility expires *shortly*, so please consider this your final notice. Please press 'one' now on your *phone* to speak with a live operator and lower your interest rates. [pause] Or press 'two' to discontinue further notices. Thank you and have a great day."
The woman who long ago delivered this liar's script had a minor "lazy vowel" accent. Spelled phonetically, interest = "in'trst", percent = "per-saant", you = "yew", and your = "yer".
I missed this call. They left no message. When I called the number back I got a cheery automated voice that said, "Hello. I fyou would like to be placed on the do not call list for the number that called you, please press 1." It offered no other choices, no indication of who the call was from. Nothign else. i'm going to assume that when I pressed 1 all I did was confirm that they got through to a person.
