They called me today and the woman, who said her name was Ellen, was very polite. She did try pushing the sale, and when I told her I don't have the purchasing power for the company she asked if I would personally like to buy anything. I told her no, which she took politely. She gave me the website and said to talk with the owner about it if he had any interest and she'd call back next week. Seeing these reviews and looking at the website makes me question buying from them. She pushed how all their artists paint with their mouths or their feet, yet several of the artists pictured (who are not apparently considered employees since they aren't listed there, you have to look at the backs of the cards to find them) are shown using their hands to paint. Not that they couldn't still be disabled, but I question if she was telling me the truth or pushing that information for a guilt trip. If I talk to her when she calls back I want to find out what THASC is supposed to stand for.
I have also bought from THASC before, a few times, in fact. They are legit, and make nice products using handicapped folks. Their cards actually have pictures of the handicapped artists on the back. You can trust them.
THASC is indeed a "business" who orders and/or makes pens & other business stuffs that don't really work. We still have some left overs from 5 years. Every year, they'll call and make "contribution requests" because handicapped people put labels on those things I've mentioned. I don't believe THASC is truly a non-profit organization. I just hope THASC management will realize that their "goods" are crappy, will do something about the quality and make them better so we can continue contributing.
THASC in NOT NON-PROFIT, it is a private for profit sales company. There is no way to verify their financials to determine how much goes to handicap personnel or who is handicapped that is employed . This a legal - however very deceptive company! The sales calls by that RUDE woman leads you to believe that they are a non-profit employing the handicap. The key word is "leads" you to believe, When asked she becomes agitated. My husband has been buying from them for years - he is a good hearted man wanting to support efforts of others. BUT NO LONGER for this group. ADVISE: Check every caller or solicitor you consider donating to or purchasing from - check them out with the State Attorney General's Office or with the Foundation Center - the 990 finder. ALWAYS read there website carefully.
They do hire anyone and train you to tell any kind of story to get a sale. The sales trainer was some woman names June Pelosi if I recall. If you don't sell enough of their [***] they can you after about two weeks. TOTAL SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!
