I just got a call from a guy with a heavy Indian accent who said his name is Roger Williams. He said he was calling from Portland, OR and gave me the 971-217-9510 number. He said I had a virus and hackers were controlling my computer. I didn't believe a word the guy was saying, but played along to see what kind of information I could get from him.

I asked him what company he worked for and he said Windows. "Not Microsoft?" I asked. "Oh yeah," he said, "Microsoft." He said he was from Windows Technical Department that they had the registration number of our computer and that it had a virus. I told him we had several computers, so what was the registration number he had? He just repeated that we had a virus. I asked him what kind of computer? He said Windows. I told that was odd, since we don't have a Windows computer. He asked what kind of computer did we have. Not a Windows, I said and hung up.

Just got a call from Roger Williams.  Phone number did not register on caller ID.  He gave me 971-217-9510 as his phone number.  Again heavy Indian accent.  Said he was from "Vendor Technical Department".  Nice and generic.  Kept saying I had DLL Virus.  Gave me what seems like a Windows product code.  Said it fast, but the first few numbers don't match the one XP system I have that he said was infected.  Now I have to call my employer to report it.  They do go after these guys.  I told him who I work for and he did pause when he realized it is one of the largest security firms in the world....

This is a scam!  Let "Roger" in if you want to lose your financial information or become part of a bot network, not to prevent it!

I received a call from a "company" named "Microtech" today (5-11-12).  They claimed I had a PC virus and almost ordered me to get in front of my computer ASAP.  The call into me did not register a phone number on my caller-ID machine.  I questioned the male who called himself Edward.  He sounded like he was from India.  When asked by me, he said his telephone number was 971-217-9510 and that he was calling from Portland Oregon.  I called this number after hanging up on Edward and another male answered with a lot of loud background noise.  They hunted down Edward.  I question their physical location but could not understand the address he gave me, something like "1241 Avenue".

Be careful out there my friends.

This Roger Williams dude is quite the character.  I told him I was having his call traced and he wasn't even threatened by it.  What a scammer.  He just wouldn't hang up and kept insisting that my computer with Windows had viruses on it.  I'm a little internet provider here in Northern California and my gentleman friend received the call and handed me the phone.  "Roger" finally hung up when I told him I knew it was a scam because my computer was a Mac and not and PC with Windows.

I caution my customers about calls such as this and want everyone to know about these jerks.  This time "Roger" wanted me to type in showmypc.com in the location bar so that he could convince me to let him into my computer.

People beware of scams like this.  If it were a nasty virus, it would be on the National news.  Microsoft would never call individuals with the kinds of lines that "Roger" came up with.  Again, BEWARE.
