I got the exact same thing today. Interesting however, as we just bought two new computers from Best Buy in Salem. Any connection to your new computer purchases?
My mother just called by a "Patrick" today wanting to talk to her about her computer that was evidently running a lot of viruses. She told them my husband works with computers so he would take of it. She did ask for his phone number though which was this 971-217-9510 number. The funny thing is she got call from a similar company yesterday called Micro PC Help. And they told her the same thing. And that if she went to their website they would fix it for her. She was leery so she told them she told them she had a son in law that was a computer tech and he'd look into it. And she called me right after she hung up on them. I researched the company name and found a ton of articles about this particular scam. And when I googled this number from today this site came up and a lot of articles about different scams going on. So yeah. Total scam. And yeah it has been around a while but that doesn't mean it isn't annoying.
Got the same phone call yesterday from Microtech. The guy, David Corner, who is also from india took me to the different steps and then asked me to pay $149 to protect my PC. I am glad that I asked him to think about it and call later. I then searched for his phone number and got here. He got my windows ID though, hope this is will not do me bad.
I got this same call yesterday & when i asked him to repeat his name to said i already told u what it was. Demanded i go turn on computer & then said i got virus 2 days ago it was trojan virus. He wanted me to go to website so he could fix it. I asked for website & he wouldnt give it to me. He was indian & the stuck his boss who sounded russian on phone. Neither one could speak english very well & they were getting pissed. I told them call back in 10 mins & u can speak to husband & he works for FBI & he hung up on me.
I just call the same call today . He said his name was David Spencer.
That his phone number was 971-217-9510 if I wanted to call back to verify.
He gave me some bogus MS license number.
He said he was authorized by MS to call me.
He said he was calling from Oregon.
I asked him where he got my phone number and he said from the IRS!
I told him I didn't believe him, thought it was a scam and not to call me again and hung up.
His accent was possibly British and he used zed instead of z
