The Caller ID said "Oregon" ... not recognizing the number I didn't answer. Based on what others have posted I'm going to say this is just what it appears to be - a scam!
Should you answer and get a live person, under no circumstances give them ~any~ information of any kind whatsoever - regardless of how authoritative they try to act or impress upon you they are...
I get asked what can be done about these kind of calls, and my answer is always: If you have Caller ID and it displays a number you don't recognize don't answer. And if you have the ability (such as call blocking) to do so, block the number. And if you don't have it, get Caller ID - it pays for itself...
As to where these a-holes get our numbers, that's a real no brainer: They may target a certain area code for example, and start dialing numbers at random. And they may be using auto call or auto dialing devices in all likelihood - thought I can't say for certain...
And NO, I don't work for them in case you're curious. I've been in law enforcement for 28 years, and I work Financial Crimes - that's my resume...
I am thankful for this site. I use it whenever I see an area code or full phone number I don't recognize. Then I just delete it from my phone. I don't the get the same caller that often. This is a great site.
