Received a 9:30 PM call from 973-221-1128. The caller claimed she represented a national coalition charities organized to defeat Autism. Although well spoken, the caller expertly introduced a sense of urgency. Next, she added guilt and the typical sales techniques, in which objections are neutralized. She first requested $70.00, but lowered it to $25.00 after I stated that I give to several important and trusted charities. When she started to move me towards a phone contribution, I told her to send me a pledge card. When she ignored my request for the pledge card, I informed her that as an attorney that's my policy. She hung-up immediately. There's no doubt that she was scammer and a good one. Don't bother answering this call.
Caller didn't leave a message on my machine and the caller id said "4TheKids" which probably means telemarketer/scammer every legitimate caller I know leaves a message. So I ran 3 reverse traces using 3 different types of traces and all were blocked for a person or business name and the only information was a general location of Hawthorne, New Jersey using 2 service providers of Allegiance Telecom of New Jersey Inc. and XO Communications which is a favorite of scammers . This is definitely a scammer that is either spoofing numbers and/or using a Voip system while phishing for personal information and running some scam ( i.e. Charity for the fight against Autism, Autism Pick-up etc. ). A legitimate business would never hide their identity and location from the public by blocking a trace. DON'T ANSWER AND DO NOT CALL BACK FOR ANY REASON. Block and report to the proper authorities. Phone companies should be held responsible for these types of calls since they are making money from them by providing the systems and services that these scammers use and possibly farming out numbers too.
