Just received that phone call. Called my police department and its a scam. The police departments local and state do not call to solicitate money. My number is unlisted and they still called me. After telling them we are both unemployed and all our monies are tight. They wanted to put us on a payment plan at that point I knew it was a scam and hung up and called the police gave them the number and they will investigate it.
I received the phone number at 8:00 on a Thursday night. I said "hello" twice and they hung up without a response. This is the second time they called. The first time the number just showed up on my caller ID, as we weren't home.
Claimed to be PBA soliciting .... I did not hear the conversation, but "they" tried to get a donation of (at least) $15... I finally tried to convince my wife to say "NO" and hang up... She sometimes gives out too much personal information. <sigh>
There are electronic devices available (for a price) that can show ANY Caller ID the caller desires... The called party has no way of knowing. BE CAUTIOUS, OUT THERE!! Mine showed "Unknown Name"
