Recieved a call today from the City of Clarksville Police Dept. Officer Julius Graham (foreign person) Unit 22 telling me to call the 201 275 0518 regarding a claim of fraud against me. Need to call this number with my attorney to settle this matter they have been calling me about. No one has been calling me about "a matter". The number for the Clarksville Police Dept appears to be legit when I call it back but the guy was rude, uninformative and threatening. Have not had any calls from the Dept of Justice. Hope you all are right and it is just a scam.
Also got a call from this number, scared me to death and I paid some money...the more I look into it, the more I see it is a scam. I have stopped paying and they are harrassing me, calling 50 or 60 times in one hour. It is a scam do NOT pay them any money! They somehow call through other numbers and it appears as a local number- it's not. I have been so scared and miserable through this whole process- do not let them do this to you!
This is a scam, they say they are department of justice and they have a warrant for u. Do not give them any information. They tried to get 1600.00 from me.
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
I got a call from the same number too.. They said they are from department of justice.. They told me I have a warrant of arrest but I could still remove the warrant if I pay $675 using money pack that I could buy at Walmart.... I called the number that they gave me and it's supposed to be the department of justice but I was shocked because I didn't have hard time calling the DOJ., the receptionist answered right away...so I know it's a scam...
