Two calls on my cellphone this morning...only number & New Jersey shows on caller ID...no message left, no name of a business - so obviously a telemarketer or scammer - what happened with DO NOT CALL registry??
Solar panels. Let them talk to wear them out and when finished, tell them you RENT your property and the calling will stop. Like all such illegal pests they do not mind wasting your time, but they sure do get ticked off when their time is wasted. If up to it, wear THEM out.
Not really... Appeals to logic doesn't work with RoboDialer. Robot doesn't care if you rent or not. Someone desperate for a job who is instructed to call you over and over again doesn't care if you are a renter. They are NEVER worn out! Bad advice. Good advice: pick up the phone unless a legitimate message is left. Get a caller ID. Block calls. Report to FTC online.
Meant to say: NEVER pick up the phone unless it's a phone number you recognize. Even if it is a recognized number, it could be spoofed! Safest phone practice: always screen calls on home line by forcing person to leave voicemail. Store phone numbers of relatives, friends, doctors offices so the phone will announce caller name when they call you - ( there is a phone with an answering machine you can pick up at Best Buy or other retailers that will do this for you. It's been mentioned here many times. I'm sure many models do this now).
800notes offers a great free service to many people. But how many of you actually contribute to the process of curbing these kinds of illegal tekemarketing practices?
I also think it's part of civic duty to report some of the phone numbers you receive to FTC. You can go directly to ftc.gov to report frequent telemarketing calls and scams. It's easy to fill out on line form. It only takes a couple of minutes. If everyone would do this once in a while (maybe every few months) we would all get less calls. Complaining about what the government has NOT done is taking a victim stance. Stooping the level of scum dwellers by harassing the telemarketer is unevolved and a waste of time. Being proactive and take steps to lessen the calls everyone receives is empowering.
