Called my mother's house, ergo the number is not mine, and she forwarded the message to me. The person leaving the message asked for me by name, immediately followed by "I am a debt collector with the offices of Cawley and Bergmann." Third party disclosure violation right there. The message then goes on to say "you HAVE to get in touch with this office today. We have to know if you have a lawyer representing you regarding a file you have pending with this office." Threatening to take legal action that they aren't able to take (because there is no debt) or have no intention of taking. Then there's the factual misrepresentation of the character or status of a debt (again, because the debt does not exist), and also disclosing his employers name to a third party without being explicitly requested to do so.

And that's just in one call...

Bottom line, these people are violating the law. I'm currently working on a legal complaint for this and numerous other violations to discuss with my lawyer.
