If they have a valid debt, tell them to send you a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good. If they don't send you a debt validation letter then don't pay them anything.
I got a long message on my answering machine while I was out of town for a prolonged period of time. It sounded like it was from a Miss Pooran, she had a pronounced Bahamian accent, or else from the "Islands". She stated I had to get back to her within 48 hours, that due to my neglect she would otherwise be forced to take action on behalf of her clients. She went on to say she would need the name of my attorney.
I was out of town long past the 48 hours deadline - a week or more past.
I get a lot of collection calls these days for other people who have similiar names as mine, even for the lady who used to live in my home before me, even though she never used my phone number, and I just assumed this to be another case of a mistake, and called this number back leaving a message on the answering machine suggesting this was probably a mistake, and that I had no idea why she was calling me.
A few days after I left that message, a Mrs Porter called my number and left a virtual identical message, saying again that I have 48 hours, that due to my neglect she would otherwise be forced to take action on behalf of her clients. She went on to say she would need the name of my attorney. Same Bahamian accent, I suspect the same woman with a different name, but similiar name.
Her lastest message she is now Sheila Porter (first name basis) and added she was calling about my "account", and that due to my neglect she would otherwise be forced to take action on behalf of her clients. She went on to say she would need the name of my attorney.
The voice sounds like the same Bahamian woman each time. She never gets specific about the subject matter, or clients, or account by name, just vague hints at threats.
The thing is, I have no accounts to neglect, I already left a message indicating that they are calling the worng number, so I suspect this is a scam. I have been away, and these 48 hours deadlines just keep passing.
Not sure what she is up to... Just wanted people to know about this as a potential scam... the names employed, the message content, and the phone number used.
I had the same thing happen to me. When I spoke to her she stated I took our a loan and since I revised to pay she would send the police to my house. I said ok my husband who it's a police officer is during right here would you like to speak to him, she them hung up. The information they ask for is your social, they seem to have your address already, but it us a total scam. The same lady called back two weeks later with the same message I told her again and again she hung up. Never force them any information total scam.
Same story as above/..this lady called my work number which I have not given out in 4 years. Caller ID shows anonymous but this is the # left to call back. She mumbles and speaks softly so you can not understand the phone number. I have no idea what this is about and am NOT calling her.
Just got a call from this number the number on the caller ID is an 800 number but the number left to call back is 201-367-1607
It was from a Mrs. Porter saying that myself or my attorney needs to call her back to take care of a matter. I did not call back and I have no idea what it is about. It sounds like a recording because there is a long pause before the person starts talking. I don't owe anyone any money and am not late on anything.
I did NOT gotten a call from this number of 201-367-1607 but did gotten a call from 201-767-5300 last tuesday. A guy ask for me and I told him you talking to them. He said he is calling on behalf of his client of think Dr. something you the know catelog where you order stuff and if I can make some type of payment thing with him to clear the debt I had with the other person I do know I had order something from the catelog people few months ago but they NEVER sent me any type of invoice so I chould make a payment to them anyway. Anyway some how my phone had cut off and he call back telling me on my voice mail that I was here hanging up on him and that he was going to tell his clients that I had refuse to make any type of payment. Then he call back again and this time I had pick up and I told him look I did NOT hang up on you knowing that where I live and the apartment I am in sometimes the phone do cut off. So we had set up a payment plan to pay his client off and that he was going to send out a letter about us making a payment plan and if there is any issues to call him back at 201-367-1607 ext 107 that was what he said. Now am afriad weather or not he is the jit or not cause he call me from 1 number but next i know tell me to call him up at another number if I have any problems at all.
