in this case I would check out other things and make sure someone did not steal your sons Identity that is was happened with my daughter i ran a credit check on her SS# and lo and behold she a large and bad credit history it took two years to get it all straightened out...but now I check it once a year when I do mine...
They call, and don't leave a message. I answered today, but nobody on the other end said something.
My fiance has an old verizon account from 2003, and they bought the old collection and are trying to make money off of this. Gerald M. is also a # that calls us. One of the agencies my fiance talked to, said, that only one debt collector is allowed to call and ask for money. After a while one agency looses the rights to this debt and another debt collector buys it. But somebody didn't get the memo!!
It really is annoying, as they are "only" asking for about 80 bucks. And when I talked to them twice, about 2 months ago, they always said, that it was being recorded. How can we block these numbers? We are on the do not call registry, but that doesn't seem to help...any ideas?
Answer the phone when they call and immediately, before they have a chance to say anything tell them "Please be aware that this call is being recorded for legal purposes...." or something to that effect. And then ask if they understand that they are being recorded. I have had great success with this. Write out exactly what you are going to say and have it by the phone so you are comfortable with the whole process. It will be worth the effort.
Ok this number called me 1-201-374-8620, there was a Hindu,ney an Indian on the other line, he said my name was something it was not, been getting that alot lately due to a recycled number from our Phone company. I kept telling him that my name was not blah blah. He then proceeded to tell me that if I did not pay what I owe- 5 thousand bucks, he would get me, he knew where I lived and he would grab me out of my house and arrest me, he also said if I loved my family I would pay immediately, I thought this very funny because I have dealt with these morons before, I simply started shouting "ALAH ALAH ALAH" into the phone, I told him that I already raised money for the "Cause" now speaking with my best Indian accent....I had learned some of their language some years back so I held the phone away from my head and as to yell at someone else in my room started to scream about how this fool thought we would give him more money for the "Cause". They listened straight through, I told him to contact his head man and tell him I was angry, I heard laughing in the background on the phone and he hung up on me lolol I know this is so terrible but after countless spam e-mail from these people and countless calls I had just had enough. Needless to say I sent this number to the fraud unit at our local FBI as a possible terrorist. They'll change their number and continue I am sure but they will never call me again....lolol
