Just received a call from this number and when I answered there was no one there. I called the number back and got a message in Spanish. All the caller ID says is Hackensack, NJ. Have no idea who this is or why they were calling

They have called 3 times in 3 days! First time no one there, 2nd time they asked for my husband and when I told them he wasn't there and asked if I could take a message the woman said she was calling from the Sierra Club. She then asked when was a good time to speak to my husband and I told her the evenings. They called this morning and asked for my husband again. When I replied he wasn't in and asked who was calling they hung up on me! I tried several times to call back but the message is in Spanish and they put you on hold listening to some Godawful music. You can't get to speak to a real person and it's very frustrating.
Well I finally managed to get through to someone at this number, but they didn't speak English! Finally they put someone on the line who said he was the interpreter. He said that they had something to do with restaurants and that they must have called me by mistake. Really three times in three days and twice asking for my husband by name, that's a mistake? They called back on last Fri. and the woman I spoke with again asked for hubby by name saying she was from the Sierra Club. I explained the previous conversation I had on Tues. and told her not to call before 6 PM. She said she would make a note of it. I was out this morning and when I returned what do I see in my caller ID? Yep they called at 9:01 AM. I tried calling the number back and got a recorded message that it wasn't a valid number. I then called the NJ chapter of the Sierra Club and was told that they ARE NOT running a membership campaign at this time. They directed me to the national chapter to see if they are running a campaign but I seriously doubt that they are. They probably are running some kind of scam and I would not give these people any personal information.
I spoke directly today with the headquarters of the Sierra Club in Ca and they don't even have our phone number on record. Yet we keep getting daily calls identifying themselves from the Sierra Club and then they rapidly hang up without saying even goodbye when I press them further. Do not speak with them. Contact your local police or telephone company to report it! The headquarters in San francisco is investigating it.
I too spoke to the national hq of the Sierra Club, after speaking to the NJ chapter who advised me that they are not running a membership drive at this time and advised me to call the national office. I spoke with the national hq yesterday. I gave them the number that keeps calling as well as my husbands name. We are contributors so I didn't want to contact the authorities if these are legitimate calls. Their national hq said that they would put us on their do not call list and if these calls were not from them they would get back to me. When this number calls they won't talk to me they ask for my husband.
