I rece3ived a call from a mr. James Allen from the "DEA" saying I was Involved in a Drug Smuggling Ring byway of Internet Prescriptions and that to avoid being indicted and sent to Fedeal Priso once I was extradicted that I had to pay 500.00 down towards a fine of between 1000.00 - 5000.00. I asked if this was a joke then the seriousness in there voice and pressure increased. They hung up once I told them that I had to speak with my husband and could not give them anything. I phoned the REAL DEA and was told this was a scam . I also called our sheriffs office as well as reported them to the Federal Trade commission. I WAS FREAKED OUT THINKING that someone used my ID in a crime and they were REALLY GOOD!!!!!!!Beware
I, too, received a call from this number this morning. Someone speaking in a very 'official' voice alleges that I purchased drugs online from the "black market," and that the DES was monitoring the purchase. First, I have purchase no medicine online, and second, the DES would not call you if they wished to initiate charges against you. They would show up at your door with an arrest warrant if they had legitimate cause.
The number of scam artist trying to pull this off are many. BE WARE.
This is not the first time I have received such a call. I wondered why. It could be that now my senior mother's medication is through a legitimate online agency and the scam artists have been clever to access some of my information, namely my phone number. Nonetheless, I contacted the DES and was assured that this would NOT be their normal operating procedure.
The call this morning was simply a voice message. In the previous scam, I answered the call. As the conversation ensued, I was offered "a deal." The deal was that if I would wire to some Caribbean country money to settle the claim (as that was allegedly where the drugs originated), then all charges would be dropped.
TAKE CARE TO BE WARE. The internet is great but it can be a very dangerous and intimidating vehicle for those who chose to extort from innocent and unsuspecting victims.
The exact same thing happened to me on October 1st, with a call from this number. I'm not sure how they got my name, but the "agents" were extremely realistic and frightening with their threats. They have this down so well that, I'm assuming since they had my address, when they heard people speaking in the background they actually told me their names and said they would be arrested as well for some made up charge.
I kept telling myself I knew it was fake, but as mentioned, they really have this scam well-practiced.
Anyway, I wanted to post this here in addition to reporting it so that others can be warned about this.
