I just received a call from this guy using a different name but same script. Just wanted to know if your customers receiving his phone calls are in Colorado?
I work for an electric utility. Some of our customers received calls from a Magic Jack number 201-448-4519. A man identifying himself as Carlos Medina or Carlos Madeira told them they needed to pay their bill immediately by going to a local store, giving them cash, and having the cashier call Carlos for instructions on how to apply the payment to his Green Dot card. Funny thing is... all of the targeted "victims" were businesses -- Asian Restaurants. None of them fell for it (that I know of).
Because no one was actually robbed, the police won't touch it. And we have no idea where Carlos really is because Magic Jack lets you use any US number. So I don't know how this guy can get caught without the scam actually working.
