There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Got a scrambled robo call from this number something about being sued final notice.. Haven't called them back. Total SCAM as reported online and by local news in my area.
Got a call from this number stating that they were the IRS and we were in tax violation, not sure of what because those details were not left. They just left # to call and no case #. Never call back because 2 week ago we got two call from a Steve Martin on the answer also to call about a tax violation. Also didn't call becasue I got 2 messages from him back to back with a different number. This got me thinking to enter the numbers 1st before call and got a message that it was a scam along with this number.
