12/10/14 This phone number was on my caller ID with no name yesterday...today from the same except one digit ahead to 66 ((9166). I think my husband blocked the 65 number which came in on 12/6 as well. Caller didn't leave a message. This may be connected to another call I'd gotten from a local number earlier yesterday with the caller ID posting 'QVD', which I picked up. I heard the spiel about a breast cancer packet but decided to look them up, declining. Within the span of 4 minutes I received a call from a 404 number and an 877 number 4 min. after that. Again, the 404 number rang 1/2 hour after that and again 404 another half hr. after that. At 8:00, a call came in from a 502 number with the name 'Insight' on the caller ID. In the midst of grading papers, having an appt., and having to do a house repair set-up within a certain time frame, I called Verizon to let them know of this nuisance which has gotten very aggressive lately. The suggestion was to change the number. I remembered blocking that comes free with FIOS...eventually, I may not have a landline. She said she'd also put me on the D0-not-call-list which I'd been on in the past. I told the woman to keep this concern in mind to her colleagues and managers, and she said she'd speak about it in their meeting today...this is a concern to phone companies - i.e. loss of business. I didn't have all my papers graded for today with all this work to investigate to try to end these calls...and another call came in this evening from this number-9166. Our names get around when we answer, it appears. From my online investigation, it seems donations aren't going to the charity 100% but are being solicited by
middle men who (it makes sense) keep a large profit by calling us. I say, make a donation to your favorite charity directly so your money will benefit those it should.
