Received spam text I'm assuming its because i fell for Google asking for a cell number. Never give cell number on the internet as a backup contact.

I don't think so.  Spam text messages are normally targeted randomly at large blocks of numbers, with no knowledge of who they belong to.

I can also tell you that I have a sizable quantity of numbers shared with Google, and have seen no indications that the numbers have been "shared".  On the other hand, you can use Google Voice to help reduce phone spam problems.

I also received a text about an ipad 3. I don't have unlimited texts so this kind of thing really grinds my gears.
