This is a fraud person. Calling by the name - "Rahul Sharma" and sometimes a lady named " Sarah" - asked for money for a receiver upgrade - do not answer their calls and hang up immediately.
Said his name was Rahul Sharma. Tried to tell me he had installed a dish at my house in 2009- 8 years ago. We never had one and I don't even live in the same house any more.
He said he was Rakesh from Direct TV. Was going to initiate a software upgrade and charge a 1 time fee of $180 and they would credit $30/month for 24 months. Asked if I preferred a morning call or afternoon call from technical. Second day same scam artist Rakesh called and walked me through unplugging my box and plugging back in. Ridiculous. I told him I wasn't paying anything until I received an email from Direct TV. Called back later that day trying to get money called repeatedly, I was in a meeting. I proceeded to let him know I was not doing anything until I had an official document. I called and reported to Dish and Direct TV of which both were very familiar with the scam. Called back the third day and I called him out on his scam and hung up! Word of advice don't give anyone anything over the phone.
Called my elderly mother today and said they were Dish Network. They had spoofed the number to say Dish Network on her caller ID. They said she had to give them her PIN and verify address so they could come upgrade her equipment, as Dish was making everyone update to Hoppers. They got her address off by a few numbers and she knew it was not Dish. But they did get her PIN. (Which has been changed now). Also they said the upgrade would drop her bill 20.00 a month, but she would have to pay them 130.00 to install this Saturday.
Reported this to Credit agencies for IDENTITY THEFT per request of the Real Dish Network. Also reported the phone number to the Real Dish Network.
