Autodialer call; Connected me to a heavily accented woman (sounded like an India native) telling me I'm selected for a government grant. As I ask questions about the source of the grant, the details begin to unravel the truth..."it is from the FDIC, Federal Depositors Insurance Company, a % refund of your taxes paid", which is obviously a lie. The catch...I have to pay a shipping & handling fee to receive my "grant" check. Never, ever, ever give out your personal data, credit cards, or account numbers to an unsolicited, unexpected caller...it's a scam!
Just got the same scam call. Heavily accented man said I was approved for a grant from the government. Said 20% of my taxes were being paid back because I was randomly selected. They had my first and last name, my email address and what they thought was my address (it was actually my job).
Same thing a man with a thick accent called me saying I was approved for a govt grant accept they used my boyfriend's information which was a complete red flag to me.
