Automated call, threatening a lawsuit. Supposedly the IRS, but I have never submitted my number to them. I won't call back, so they will just have to send a letter (like they would really do).
They called three or four times so far today with an automated message saying they are from the IRS filing a lawsuit wanted us to call them back. The real IRS never calls anybody! This is a scam, do not fall for it!!
I received two calls from this number (202-213-8555) this morning too, saying the same thing. So, at lunch I called. Got a guy with an "India" accent telling me that according to the "Audit Department" I owed an additional $400.00 in taxes. I started to quiz him about specifics and told him that I was already on a payment plan. Could he please send me something via certified mail? He went back to the owing of the $400 and said that a lawsuit was being prepared. I asked him which court it would be filed in (as I'm a civil law paralegal) and he said he needed to check with his supervisor and put me on hold. Came back about 2 minutes later and said that the lawsuit was still being prepared, PENDING MY PAYMENT OF THE TAXES OWED. At that point, I knew this was [***]. The clincher question I asked was for his full name and his IRS ID Number. Click. He hung up on me.
I got a similar IRS message about a law suit. I called them back and they asked me about an address that I never lived at. Was the former address of my children
