This morning I got a robot "Townhall Meeting" Call hired by Kevin Yoder. I've gotten these before, but this
was worse than usual. It came at 10:27am. Recently I have been using some older software called
PhoneTray Free v.1.39 to play a disconnected tone to spam callers. I tried it with this one and it didn't
work. I saw the caller ID said "Private Call" which is Caller ID for criminal ignoring the do not call list.
I picked up the phone and hung it up. Then I heard my answering machine start to answer it. I turned it off.
Then I tried again to disconnect the call. Didn't work. I decided to listen to the call to find out who it was. It
sounded like a radio talkshow. I realized it was another one of those stupid morning Townhall Meeting calls.
I had to listen for several minutes before I heard someone use the words "Congressman Yoder".
Since hanging up was useless, I tried pressing buttons. After several I got a recorded voice saying
"Your comment has been recorded". I just started hitting buttons randomly for a while until a woman came
on the line. I asked her to never have their robot call me again. She asked for my name and number,
which I provided and then said OK. She was polite, so I managed to restrain my urge to yell at her.
This was a robocall with blocked caller caller ID info and apparently no message to identify what it was or
who it was from. It monopolized my phone line for at least 40 minutes. I don't know if their call scrambled
my modem, or my phoneline, but something about it prevented me from being able to hang up on it.
This sort of thing has to stop. Who out there wants a random call from their congressman chatting with
people? If I want to know what he's doing, I'll read a newspaper, watch the news or check online. I don't
want him calling me at 10am just so I can listen to him talk to other people. I especially don't want him
to call and lock up my phone so I can't make any calls!
Is there anyone out there who really wants these calls? Or any kind of political spam on their personal
phone? Funny how politicians made sure their junk calls were exemted from the do not call list.
