same [***] have been calling me for 2 days saying there is a federal warrant for taxes. the first couple times it was a pretty heavy indian accent. then it was a more refined british english indian accent. it's just a big scam. don't even bother answering the phone and don't get scared or intimidated.

2022396520 this number keep calling me and leave a voice mail with the same [***] messages as above. I blocked the number then they started calling me form this other number 2022390605. Be carful and know that it's [***] and a scam. They were both different persons with an indian accent, so I assume they are calling from india with a local DC number.

2022390605 this number called me 09/09/2014
2022396520 this number called me for a few days till I blocked it, starting 08/29/2014

Received calls from 202-239-0605 and 415-251-8910 on 9/11 and 9/12 respectively.
Claiming to be IRS officer. Demand your immediate action to call back and not to ignore the warning. First call sounds like female robotic voice. 2nd one sounds like African or Indian. Same tactic same scam.
I did report both cases to IRS. I also reported the problem to one of the TV stations locally.
BLOCK these numbers and do not answer unknown call. Report the scam and harassment to everyone that you know. It's very easy for newly immigrants, struggling household and senior folks fall for these kinds of traps. Help protect our community.

I googled the number and got this.  I didn't answer because I didn't know the number and don't know anyone in DC.  Total scam if they're claiming to be the IRS.  I'm Canadian and have no reason to deal with the IRS.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://m.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-centr ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf).
