A gentleman(yes, I'm being overly polite) called me from this number and made threats on my voicemail claiming to be associated with the IRS. I have reported the number to FTC, is there ANYTHING I can do further to be protected myself from this guy's threats or retaliatory actions he may engage in against my identity?
I received a voice mail message with the male claiming to be with the IRS. He made threats if I didn't call him or have my attorney call him. He sounds to have an accent much like that of Indonesian or Pakistani heritage- I am a communication specialist, but not 100% sure of the origin of caller. The number is managed by a co. in Washington, D.C. named Sprint Spectrum and they manage mobile numbers. Didn't fall for it, but would like to know whom to contact to report the scammer.
IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. It has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
this is a scam number just keep calling them back to tie the phone lines up and mess with the people they get really pissed off when you do that love playing games
Thank goodness for this site. The IRS is often reviewing my taxes (I'm kinda careless some years), and they guessed correctly that I had something in 2008. They also had my home address, but they couldn't confirm my social security number. I also know that IRS agents don't call, they only mail. When I saw this site I was relieved for the confirmation.
Then they called back twice more today. That gave it away that they were scammers.

BACK THEY KEPT CALLING MY PHONE ALL DAY.
