I received a call from 202-239-2883 stating that there was a lawsuit filed against me. I have received several calls from this same number. Total scam I am sure; however, I do not want to be bothered again from this number.
Came home to a recording from this number on my answering machine. Most of the recording was cut off, but the part I heard was that something was going to be filed against me in the civil courts and I had to call this number back. Of course I knew it was a scam but called back to flip out on them and, of course, mailbox full and can't accept any more messages!
Received the same message everyone above received. If you are TRULY being sued, you are served with a complaint, a copy of the plaintiff's complaint filed with the court, that is hand-delivered to you, with you signing a return receipt, or if you are not available, it is pasted on your front door and garage door, with follow-on service attempts made by personal service. Formal service of process is NEVER served over the phone. I have no clue who is running this sham and scam, but they are pretty damn stupid. This is the law in all 50 states and in the federal court system.
