Indian accent guy calls me constantly (I never answer to numbers I dont know) so, last friday he left a message saying he is calling from the office of "Peter Brown" and that he is calling from Federal Investigation Dept, batch ID #15938 ...It is extremely hard to understand what he says next but is something about fraud, misconduct on your taxes. He ask my husband to stop hiding from the federal government and if he would like to rectify his wrong doings he can be reached at 242-239-2611. Then on following Tuesday I got another missed call different guy SAME Batch id# and EXACT SAME MESSAGE but this one can be reached at 202-241-2611. I guess he forgot his number!!! I have Both voicemail on my phone right now and comparing and is the exact same message, slightly different voice and coming from same place! Which I can do something with those voicemails like bring to police or IRS office or something... SCAMMERS!!!!
Man with an Indian accent called twice harassing my son asking for me. Claims he is an officer, Officer Ryan Smith from the criminal division of the IRS and I owe $6112 from the past 10 years, what do I want to do? I asked him what the name of my account is. He said another officer has that information ( yeah Right). The called ID said Washington DC which he claimed was where he was calling from.there.
I said, OK I suppose you expect me to wire you money now? He said no ( I think that tipped him off ). He also said a local officer was going to be coming to my house in 1 hour if I wanted to settle it with him. I said go ahead and send them!!!!
This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). I just received the same call from an Officer George, Badge No. 15938, Phone no. 202-239-6518. Wanted to speak to my husband. Told him he has the wrong guy, we file and pay our taxes every year. He said there are errors and we owe the federal government money and if my husband does not call back he will send the sheriff and arrest him. Same Indian accent. Asked why we never received anything in the mail and he claims 2 notices has been sent and gave me tracking numbers, he even had our address. I figured it was a scam so I googled the number. IDIOTS!
