Please be aware of this scam! They tried to convince me they were from the IRS and that I owed money. Tried to get me to send them a money gram. Yelled at me on the phone and told me to "shut my mouth while talking to an "attorney". Threatened me that if I hung up they would send my case to "legal".  They called back multiple times.

Be Careful!

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

USA tax payers should read this:
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/Phone-Scams-C ... 5-Filing-Season

Canadian tax payers should read this:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/nwsrm/lrts/2013/l131210-eng.html

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Educational post:
This scam is also described as scam #11, here:

If you were contacted by an IRS impostor, you may file a report, after clicking on this link:

These people are a total scam.  I could hardly understand what they were saying.  From what I could gather they called me to tell me I was avoiding jury duty and were very abusive. I hung up on them.  The courts will communicate via US mail.  Such calls and rudeness were not characteristic of any courts on which I've served jury duty, which I've done 5 times.  The link below describes such scams.
