Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.
I called the number back after I listened to the voice mail. A couple things were off;
1- they answered right away and I have never had the irs pick up directly especially on the third ring.
2- the man on the other end asked for my social, when I refused to give it to him all of a sudden he could not hear me and hung up.
I got a call saying that this number (202) 241-8268
DC, USA was from the IRS but I haven't worked in years and my taxes are caught up. I don't know if it's a scam or not but after he asked my last name and SS# he hung up.
I received a call yesterday October 14, (actually, they called me twice) saying it was the IRS, asking me to call them back before is too late and they would take action against me...
Well, I called back and some guy (it sounds like from India) ask me my phone number, and them ask me to wait back their call...
They were the IRS from Washington DC..
I know this have to be a scam, because I have my taxes up to date.
Beware those guys
Got a call about 10 minutes ago from 202-241-8268. Sent it straight to voicemail once I didnt recognize the number. Heard the voicemail and it's basically the exact same thing the other victims above said. My taxes are good. I'm not worried about it. :)
I got called also and I knew taxes were done, but I immediately thought I was getting audited. I read my voicemail before hearing it.
Then I heard it in a distorted voice, then saw district of Columbia for phone trace.
For women who stress over everything and worry about everything like me, please be careful. Research numbers as I did. Its sad people scam so much especially when finances are hard for some people.
