The called saying they were from the Legal dept but wouldn't identify the business name for the legal dept. When they refused I told them to remove my number from their calling list. then they replied with mother f**er.
Left a message on our answering machine, hoping we would take the bait. It sounded like a computer and the name was Tom Jenkins, who had a voice of someone who does not have English as a first language. Sounded like he said they were from the Department of Public Affairs but was hard to be sure. Tried to scare us by leaving a very long message saying if we didn't call back we should obtain a lawyer. The kicker was that the message was for someone who doesn't even live with us.
Got a call from this number today, a woman with an Indian accent said that she was from the Dept of Treasury and wanted to talk about a legal case pending against me. Yeah, right... I posed the question "How do I know that this isn't some sort of phone-phishing scam?", she started speed-talking and indicated that agents would be at my door with an arrest warrant within 45 minutes... I guess I should throw on some better clothes for my "perp-walk".
Just received a call asking for my husband to call them back at Dept of Legal Affairs of US Treasury. I asked what time they were there till . When she said 6:30, I asked if that was Eastern Standard Time... she had to "check". Hmmm foreign accent and you don't know what time zone you are in??? This is exactly the scam that the news and government has been warning us about!
