This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances - amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://m.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-centr ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). You can use the following template for your letter (more powerful!) or email:
Today, I received the same call. Did not answer it as unrecognized number.Left a Voice Message. Checked on the message and knew immediately that it was a Scam call as I had received a similar call earlier last year. Googled the number and found this report. My guess was right. The message was from a male going through a voice altering device. After 10 mins. they called me again through a different no (202) 239-6520 and did not leave any message. Googled on it and found the same story.
Thanks for posting it.
I recived a call this morning from this number on 11-21-14, saying that i had an arrest warrant out for me for IRS fradulent from 2012 and i owed them 80K, i knew it was scam, i told my secretary at work to call the number and to see what this was all about and she called over 10 times and the guy kept hanging up on her. Said he was from the State Investigative Department and then he only wanted to recieve calls after 8 pm. This is defintily some sort of overseas SCAM, Beware!
I got the call from this number this morning (11/26/14) . Same MO - "we have an arrest warrant under your name and you will be picked up by authorities within 24 hours." He even read me the three counts of tax evasion and fraud that I was to be arrested under. He then asked if I had any questions and I said none. His next statement was that he will ask me about 5-6 questions and I let him know that he is definitely able to ask and I will listen, but I will not respond to anything without my attorney present. At that point he asked if I was listening to his earlier statements about the arrest and I reminded him of my recent statement about an attorney present. He said "good luck getting arrested" and hung up! What he really did was confirm the holes in this scam! He had my wrong address - I didn't provide the correct one. The real IRS has the correct one. The caller had a strong Indian accent.
I got a call from this number today from Daniel Scott. He was rude in talking and gave me case id and told me that i have some tax issues. I asked them to send paper work to my address and i will verify from local court before proceeding. Keeping in view the complaints lodged here, it seems to be a scam and needs to be ignored.
I got a phone call from these guys today and I honestly nearly fell for it. I got late to work today because I thought it was legit... until I bought a $500.00 USD Greendot Prepaid Card and they asked me for the VISA number. At that point I knew something was up. I googled the number and it was a scam! I have issued a refund from Greendot but it'll take 2 weeks. *sigh* I have also reported them to authorities. I really got scared there. I guess I am gullible :(
