Also got a scammer call tonight from "Atlantic Media" tonight - tried to tell me we had forgotten to send a check in with our renewal card. I told her we had cancelled that magazine (Economist) quite a while ago - she said we had signed up for one of their specials - buy 2 years, get 1 free for 370. I interrupted and asked if she mean't 370 DOLLARS and she said yes. I told her there was no way we would ever in a gazillion years pay for ANY magazine at that price - she needed to put it in writing by law. She tried to tell me, No ma'am but I hung up.
Called the magazine and they assured me the account was inactive for over a year, they don't make phone calls and they are not affiliated with Atlantic Media. She thanked me for providing them with information on the call as well as providing them with the phone number it came from - 202-266-6001.
BEWARE it's a scam - don't give them anything. Looking into filing a legal complaint.
I got a call from this number and they said that I did not include a check for a magazine renewal in June and if I wanted to keep getting the magazine, I needed to pay tonight. I said "and use my credit card?" I SAID I DON't DO THAT and hung up. Do not fall for this prank. The caller is smooth.
Called Atlantic 202-266-6000 and they confirmed that the x6001 is their fax number. I guess the caller ID is using the fax number as a cover. My guess is the Atlantic sold it's mailing list of past subscribers and DGB Enterprises is calling to scam credit card numbers. I asked the person to stop calling on more than one occasion and they have not stopped. I sent a complaint to the FTC and have blocked their number. Good luck.
