I answered and it was a lady in an Indian accent. She sounded like she was calling through Skype. She asked for Mrs. Sawant. I said that's me. She said she was calling from US Immigration department and then she asked me to verify my first name. I told her that she should have that information in front of her, I told her I will verify my first name if she would give me the correct answer of my first name over the phone. Silence ensued. after a minute of waiting, I said goodbye and hung up.
I answered this call and the guy told me that he was from the USCIS and that he had received some complaints about me. He asked me for info from my passport and I told him he should have that handy and not ask me, if he was looking at my file. He said he was verifying who I was. Told him that I was going to verify his identity and then talk to them. He hung up immediately. The interesting thing is.. this is a legitimate FBI number and I called them to tell this. They said they were aware of the scam and were working on it. Told me to ignore this call.
Got call from this number saying I was being investigated for crime. Only problem is FBI doesn't call you. They have local agents at your front door. Scammers spoofed telephone number. SCAMMERS.
This number most definitely is the FBI guys. I was interviewed by an agent in person and she later called me from this number. As far as the prank calls, I wouldn't be surprised if some sick loser was using the number to scam people. If you're skeptical, try calling back and verifying.
