IRS telephone scam. Called and left a message that I was going to be hauled away in handcuffs if I didn't call them back immediately. I called and had some fun with them. Could hear a bunch of callers all with Indian accents.
This an India based IRS scam (there are also Pakistan based ones). Do not fall for this. Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm
The IRS does not initiate any legal action over the phone. Report it also to your local law enforcement agency. The scammers use magicjack (Ymax corporation) voice over IP lines. This is against this company's terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact with Ymax. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Delhi. but as one proud scammer once said to me over the phone: "Prime Minister Modi will never let you touch us." If you Re really annoyed call or srite to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).
They called me from Chicago a few weeks ago using the same names but different phone numbers... Same scam, from IRS, taking me to jail, need to call. I had had enough and knowing that there are people who do fall for this I call them back... With my trusty police whistle!!!
I received several calls from 202-280-7127 threatening me that I will be going to jail because of "a lawsuit" against me. He advised me to call 202-280-7127 for details. He spoke with a foreign accent. I did not call the number.
