Same exact scenario happened to me - 3 calls from "unknown caller" and then they finally left a message yesterday, saying the same thing they did to you. Freaked me out at first - I know I don't owe the IRS anything, but of course they can make mistakes and cause you a lot of hassle. Now that I've read the posts on this website, I'm not going to even bother calling this obvious scam back.
its a SCAM - Don't return the call or if you answer and the person on the other end starts down the path of harassing you that we are going to file a lawsuit etc., or attach you bank account - its pure garbage. Hang up.
IRS does not use prerecorded messages or threaten people on the phone. if you have a tax issue, you will get a letter from the IRS in the mail - not a phone call.
I received the call stating that IRS is about to issue us (we are two of us here, and I do not know which of us is targeted.)
I left the voice message to call back 202-280-7924.
The caller ID envelop indicates that the call is from 234-567-890 (one digit is missing).
I called back anyway from my 2nd telephone number (that is used only for my work), and no one picked up my call (although I strongly suspected that it was a scam)
It's a scam. There are at least two people behind this scam. One guy claims himself to be "officer Mark William, badge No. 2957" (with heavy Indian accent), and a woman.
Don't give them any personal or your financial information over the phone.
Yeah I also got a call from 202-280-7924 this morning about the IRS filing a suit against me. They left a voicemail but I really don't want to call back just in case it is a scam. Does anyone know?
