Third call from 202-297-6946, claiming that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me.  Some people need to get a new hobby.

I have received several calls from this number with the same message about the IRS filing a lawsuit against me.  The robocaller always leaves the same number it seems to be calling from, but if you use a cell phone or a different # to return the call it won't go through.  At any rate, it's always an Indian or Pakistani answering wie-
Henry, or Eric or something similar, and he always starts with "what's your name?"  Usually I'm just playing with them but this last time I tried to act as though I thought I would really be a lawsuit target.  When he asked me for my name I told him I thought he should know it since I was the one contacted first.  He told me he was looking for Pat Manning at my number (totally made-up name, I'm sure) and acted confused that I wasn't he/she.  I told him I'd received several calls from them and to take me off their list.  He said he would.  Of course he won't, and I'll just play with them again.  Ridiculous.

The IRS does not initiate communications
with a "cold call" to unsuspecting people.
Instead
The IRS always sends a letter, first!

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

USA tax payers, click on the "USA_Info" button, below, for lots of information and a reporting site.

USA_InfoUSA tax payers should read this:

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

If you were contacted by an IRS impostor, you may file a report, after clicking on this link:
