Left an incomplete voice mail to call back re: IRS lawsuit. I called back, the person with an India accent answered "tks for calling IRS" and I said : Excuse me, where I am calling? and he hang on me. I tried to call like 10- times again and no one answer. This is not the first time I get call supposedly from IRS. IRS NEVER WILL CONTACT YOU BY PHONE. IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT, HANG THIS CALL AND LOOK FOR A LEGITIMATE IRS NUMBER TO CLARIFY YOUR DOUBT. IRS communications are ALWAYS not exception by mail.
I like how they say the IRS is filing a lawsuit against, then pause, and then it says you. It was a robo call that left 3 messages on my answering machine in one day.
If you're not answering in any way, continue and let the phone ring. If they're getting an answering machine, it's a live voice they're looking for, despite being able to leave you threats they believe will scare you. It is possible (it may take some time) to outlast callers and get them tired of calling you and getting no answer at all. That's how I stopped daily calls from breast cancer and American Vets charities. You've got to be able to miss calls and it also helps greatly if you are not at home much (for landline).
