We got a phone call on our house number claiming they are calling from Washington D.C and that the Indian government has given alot of money to the american government for minorities in america. And they said the president of India Manmohan Singh wants to help. They said american government has chosen a few people and we were one of them. They knew our address and guessed a few things right about how long we have been staying here. They said that since we have been paying all our taxes on time for several years they are giving us some of the tax money in the amount of $8,999.00. They said we need to go the local Western Union and deposit $125.00 + $10.00 charging fee for security and then the person calling would stay on phone line with us to make sure we get our $8,999.00. The first person that called us said his name was Rahul Sharma and he called from no name number: 1-202-436-9786 and he told us to call Manish Kumar at 1-202-241-2668. We almost fell for it for a second but then we caught on because why would the government offer this amount of money and that too in cash. TOTAL SCAM!! Please do not fall for it! Anyone asking you to deposit money or give any kind of personal information is usually a fraud person. SO BEWARE!!!
I got a similar call yesterday from (202) 241 2668. The person on the line identified himself as Robert Brown and had a similar story. But this time it was US government that wanted to help me. Then he asked me if I am close to a Western Union branch. That raised a red flag. If anyone wants you to transfer money via Western Union, it's a SCAM. Don't fall for it. BTW, he tried very hard to have an American accent. But I have heard so many call center employees based out of India, that I figured that it's all a scam.
I gave had the same call! TOTAL SCAM!! got $600 from me and promised to give me $10,000 from the US Government saying that the indian government has picked some people to help. I AM SOOOOOO MADDDDD!!!!!!!!! DO NOT FALL FOR IT!!! the guys name was rahul sharma.....
