I got a call today from this number. They're now saying "Federal Trade Commission", and are still not intelligible. I'm glad I looked the number up online before I called...!
caller told me to call this number and ask for edwin austin. said he was with dept of treasury and I qualifed for a federal grant of 8400.00 . sounded phony so I lookef up the number
THIS IS A SCAM!!! Please do not listen or believe anything that is said. A foreign male stated his name was Edwin Austin & stated my son had a 8,000.00 government approved grant but he first needed to go to Western Union & wire $250.00 to a charity in Costa Ricca!!! He could give me any information on the business so I could look it up & he hung up on me when started asking more questions about proof that this business is legitimate!!! Called & he kept sending me to his voice mail which I was more than happy to fill up!!! It's sad that this is happening to our college students because my son almost fell for it!!!
I got a call from 202-777-7212, they told me I won a Gov't Grant worth $8400.00, they gave me a confirmation # and a number to call back 202-470-1406. they told me to call this number with my confirmation # to verify my info. I called the number got no answer, but someone called me back from 850-302-5768. They told me I had to pay a $235.00 app. fee. I can never understand why I would pay money to get money that supposedly is mine. Why can't they send me the money and I pay later. Anyway, after a few minutes of arguing, they hung up on me.
