They called me on my cell phone to tell me that i owed the IRS $482.00 and wanted payment today. First a female WITH HEAVY ACCENT left a message.., then when i called the number it rang about 25 times...no answer. Then i called back and a foreign voice said his name was JASON WRIGHT. He tried to to get me to make payment over the phone. i couldn't understand what he was saying, so he then transferred me to his (supervisor MARK WILLIAMS) NOT ONE OF THESES PEOPLE WERE AMERICANS. SAID HE WAS CALLING FROM WASHINGTON D.C.! A criminal investigations was being filed against me for STATE TAXES! Sounded like a call center in the background. Mark then told me my full home address and email but wouldn't give me my SSN #. this was sounding very fishy to me Mark proceeded to give me and 844-244-4492 TO CALL BACK AND MAKE A PAYMENT! YEAH RIGHT!!!!
This a Pakistan based IRS scam (there are also Indian based ones). Do not fall for this. Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm
The IRS does not initiate any legal action over the phone. Report it also to your local law enforcement agency. The scammers use voice over IP lines in this case "level 3" phones (others prefer e.g. magicjack (Ymax corporation)). This is against the company's terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact if you yourself are not a customer. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Islamabad. If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).
They told my eight year old daughter that I was going to be arrested by the police in the next 5 minutes. She was hysterical hyperventilating. Shameful!!
