Just got off the phone with these scammers!!! Please don't fall for their crap. First, they left me a message stating that I was being sued for back taxes and failure to call back would result in me getting arrested. So, I called them back and spoke with a representative with a very heavy foreign accent. He went through a litany of threats to include taking my children away and putting them in foster care among other things. I repeatedly asked the gentlemen to provide me with the tax year and exact "miscalculation" I made. He proceeded to connect me to his supervisor - another gentleman with a heavy foreign accent who again went through the long list of threats before ever bothering to tell me the nature of my "crime". Again, I repeatedly asked this man to verify my tax information and where the miscalculation was made. He eventually said that the miscalculation was between 2010-2015 for a total of $2,865. So, I got out my tax forms - from 2011 - he asked me to verify the OMB# on the form. For anyone who doesn't know, the OMB# is simply the control number the OMB uses for the form. He verified it (of course, all 1040A's are OMB 1545-0074) but said that was all he could tell me about my taxes. At this point, I burst out laughing. He said he was hanging up and that I should prepare to be arrested within the next 30 minutes and to have my forms ready for the authorities. I laughed louder. I'm sure the local police are at their beck and call. Interesting considering I never received any correspondence from these scammers other than this threatening phone call. Please don't bother calling them back - just a waste of your time and it will undoubtedly make you frustrated. I'll come back on in about an hour to ensure all of you that I was not in fact arrested. :)
