Got a call from this number. Kevin Mathews, speaking with a heavy accent, said he was from the IRS. He said I had been named in a law suit. When I starting asking very pointed questions he hung up. SCAM!!!!!
This caller has called me and left messages twice today, saying that I have been "named in a lawsuit" but it does not address anyone in our house by name, mention a lawsuit, or what "county-court" it claims to be filing with. Fishy, especially since I don't have any clue as to who would be naming me in a lawsuit for anything. The voice is clearly computerized. And and the call back number asks you to leave a message.
I am making a police report for harassment, and I recommend anyone else who gets this call to do the same.
I actually just got off the phone with 311. The officer explained the same thing as you did.
She said that there has been an increase of such calls in our area this summer. The intent is to skim information off the caller... most likely for ID Theft. The officer also said that, if no money is involved, I should file with the Attorney General, which is exactly what I am going to do. They are collecting info on these scams.
So if anyone gets a call from this number, don't call it back, just report it to your local Attorney General's office.
I have been getting calls at least 15 times from these people for last 3 month. They are mainly from India or Pakistan and out of country. They do try to have someone to speak without accent and work for them so they can present them self as a IRS or other agent.
I got one of them to talk after they realized I know about their scam. He said he is making $2000 a day and asked me if I want to work for him!
I told him that people know about them and they will get caught and arrested. He said American’s are stupid and they pay and authorities will not able to trace their calls!!
This is becoming very annoying and some people unfortunately fall for this. I urge people to call attorney general and get them involved in this.
