Fraud Attempt?
Caller claimed to be from IRS, told me I was about to be arrested for Money Laundering if I didn't accept his help.  He wanted me to go get cash from my bank, take it to a CVS or Walgreens to buy an electronic voucher and then take that voucher to the IRS office.  He said it was urgent and needed to be done within an hour.

This is a well known IRS scam perpetrated from India (Delhi callcenters). You can usually tell by the thick accents. Sometimes they use spoofed numbers to seem real. Read http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam. All others who read this, please do not fall for this. The IRS never calls directly to open a case.

Yep. It's a fraud attempt. One that is getting very old. The IRS uses the USPS. I'm betting your caller had an Indian accent. The scummy frauds in India have been using this routine for a long time.
If you were going to be arrested for money laundering you wouldn't be getting a phone call. The IRS does NOT accept "vouchers" (pre-paid cards) from Walmart or Walgreens. EVER!
The cretin will call back. He'll want numbers off the card. He will NOT tell you to go to an IRS office! He's just trying to scam you. The frauds out there, particularly the Indian ones, are getting desperate. They know that Americans will be enjoying the holidays at their lake houses & pigging out at company BBQs. We'll be setting off fireworks that cost more than they'll scam in 3 months. They have a hard time understanding that. They're bottom-feeding vermin but, in their own minds, they think they deserve what we have & what they don't. Money! It never crosses their minds that if they were actually real human beings they might have real lives & real jobs.
This scam is so well known that the IRS has warnings posted about it on their websites.
Be Safe. Be Aware.

Arlington wa fraud call
Got a call sounded like they tried to disguise his voice. Said we owed tax fraud money. We would be arrested. If we didn't call this number right away. Said our assests would be frozen. And we'd be arrested immediately.

Had a voicemail from the IRS (July 9, 2014) requesting I call back due to a pending criminal complaint against me (thick accent, could not understand).  I called back, they wanted to know the phone number I was dialing from, then a "Ryan Smith" (thick Indian accent!) proceeded to tell me I was a habitual offender, had many mistakes on my taxes from 2005 - 2012, did not report my income properly, there was a warrant out for my arrest -- I argued back on every point, asked who he was, told him the IRS does not notify people by phone, you get legal documents in the mail, and they don't wait for a span of 8 years to pursue!  I demanded to see the legal documents, he told me I would see them tonite, along with an arrest warrant.  I called my local police department, asking if this was a scam -- it is!!  I then called the number back and read them the riot act...it was quite satisfying.
