After a little more digging I've discovered 202-570-7276 is a cell phone number. Last I checked, govt offices don't conduct business primarily by cell phone. If this isn't fake than I don't know what is
I got a call from this number, saying they were from the Government Grants Office. Saying they had approved our request for a government money based off an inquiry I made on-line, in the amount of $100,000 dollars in grant money.
The gal's name who called me is Kim Brown. She gave me a "case number C142309". She said that I would need to complete an application from a certified grant writer, and also include a Business Proposal, and other documents - that the grant writer would provide. What seemed suspisious was that she gave me a very tight time line to submit our application of Nov. 7th to Nov. 11th (Today is Sept. 27th) to turn in all our business info. and that the grant money would not be available until sometime in January. She sounded sort of legitimate in some areas of conversation. But who is to say after this gal is just a con artist and get all of our personal information, our identity is stolen.
I had the same experience as Brenda. The person I spoke to was also Kim Brown and the time frame for submission was very similar. She told me I would need a 9 page grant proposal written by a certified grant proposal writer and gave me the number to a place called Florida State Financial Planners. The person I talked to there said his name was Steven McDaniels and that it would cost $480 for them to pay the grant writer and cover their fees and expenses.I was also given a case number. I called the Government Grant Office (800-518-4726) and told them what happened. The gentleman I spoke to said the govt doesn't give grants to small business start ups only loans. He also said the case # was completely bogus. I'm reporting this as fraud to my state's attorney generals office and suggest anyone else do the same. At first I was really down on the fact my plans have to be put on hold again. Now I'm mad because they almost managed to use my excitement against me. I would hate to see anyone get screwed over by these vultures.
Same here...Had a great business lined up in my little town. Gave me a number that lead me to yet another scam artist named Stevan McDaniels....ended up losing 480 bucks...oh well...could have been worse.
Wow, you mean you were looking for SOMETHING FOR NOTHING (you know, somebody to just "grant" you some money) and you got taken?
Scammers get down on their hand and knees and thank the lord every time they find somebody like you. What kind of a business were you going to start, anyway, FRAUD PROTECTION? LOL!
